Anchoring in Intimacy

Pray for me. How many times have you heard that in your life? Probably too many to count. As good Christians we are taught to pray over our meals, pray for the poor and broken hearted and pray before bed. A lot a Christians treat prayer as an "add-on"....... I was in that group of Christians.

I did a quick speed prayer in the mornings sometimes right out of bed or while brewing my morning coffee.I would pray for family members if they had fallen ill or pray when I needed something.  I would talk to the Lord in the car on the way to work but I didn't consider prayer as a weapon or a tool. I surely didn't view it as one of the most MIGHTIEST OF TOOLS for a Christian!

Now, I do not think that the Lord doesn't want us to pray on the way to work or while making breakfast. The bible says to pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV )

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

This being said, I do know that there is power, healing and peace when you designate a special, set apart time for the Lord in prayer.

Last year, I started waking up early to meet the Lord in my secret place. As my kids were sleeping in their warm beds, I crept into my closet and began to pray. Was this intimidating? Yes. I didn't know where to start but I just remembered that God is a good Father and I bore my heart to him.  I also used this model of how Jesus told His disciples to pray:

 Matthew 6: 9-13 (ESV)

Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come,

your will be done,on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

    but deliver us from evil.”

Jesus commanded us to pray. Jesus prayed......a lot. The bible shows Jesus taking time apart from the disciples to go in secret and pray to the Father. If Jesus needed to pray, how much more do we need to?

Our prayers are petitions to our Lord and they produce intimacy with Him. As we get to know Jesus more intimately we grow more sure of our place in His Kingdom and our faith grows. The enemy is always after our hope and faith. This is one of the biggest reasons that prayer is a weapon. I can now testify to many of my battles being won in the secret place.

Sometimes the battle isn't even ours...It's the Lord's.

2 Chronicles 20:15 (NLT)

He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s

Choose to fight at His feet! Fight your battles at the feet of the King in prayer and intercession because prayer is a weapon.
