Anchored in thy Word O Lord

Have you read the Bible today? This is usually the text  I would receive from my good friend in the mornings. We both exchanged texts like: "How was your time with the Lord this morning?", "What did the Lord say to you this morning in your quiet time?" or " Have you read your Word today?". Ever since we've met she has brought this type of accountability with her. It has ignited in me a fire to start to hold myself more accountable. I used to be a Christian that barely read the bible throughout the week, let alone daily. The Bible says this:

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet

and a light for my path.

- Psalm 119: 105

How can we think we are going to be efficient followers of Jesus, hear from God or know His Will for our lives if we aren't consuming His Word?  Without the Word we are fumbling in the darkness. The bible refers to Christ as the morning star (Rev. 22:16)  and as the Word (John 1:14).

Another one of my sisters in Christ said this:

"Wash your mind with the Word of God." That sentence has stuck in my heart. I can testify to this. The more time I spend in the Word the more my mind is renewed and transformed.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

-Romans 12:2 NKJV

We constantly need the renewing of our minds. We need the reassurance, encouragement and mere truth from the Word of God to build us up in our spirits. We are in the world all day consuming other's opinions, concerns and agendas. To counteract this we need God's undeniable truth resting in us. The more we meditate on God's Word the more it comes up and out of us.

I will meditate on your precepts

and fix my eyes on your ways.

-Psalm 119:15  ESV

Your word I have hidden in my heart,

That I might not sin against You.

-Psalm 119:11 NKJV

Just like Ezekiel was told to eat the scroll (Ezekiel 3:1), we have to consume the Word of God to battle the lies of the devil and to hold on fast to the promises of the Lord. Reading the bible doesn't have to be overwhelming either. You can start by reading one chapter at a time. I recommend reading full chapters so you will get the correct context of the scriptures. Also, ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to this spiritual book so you can see what Jesus wants to be revealed to you. The Bible is a lamp unto our feet but it also a weapon.

Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17 NLT

Let's be anchored deeply in Christ and the beautiful Word of God.
